It would be ideal if you could strap a barometer around you. Such an instrument would tell you whether you are improving your oxygen-intake level while exercising. To explain further, any activity needs that many millilitres of oxygen to fuel the required energy for that level of activity. The more oxygen your body can take in and use, the fitter you are.
